Welcome to the base of Schlossberg — Graz's most iconic landmark! This is your starting point for exploring the castle hill that has towered over the city for centuries. From here you can already see the dramatic cliff face rising above the old town's baroque rooftops. The Schlossberg stands 120 metres above the city and once housed an impregnable fortress. Napoleon ordered it demolished in 1809, but the citizens of Graz paid a ransom to save their beloved hill.
